How-To: Livery Sync
The desktop client for Windows installs the liveries of all collections you follow into the game and keeps them up to date.
For now, the client syncs ACC liveries only. AC EVO support follows with a client update; until then, install AC EVO liveries from their ZIP, see AC EVO Liveries.
Choosing the collections
The desktop client only syncs the collections you follow:
Click Follow or Unfollow on a collection page. The tab Followed under Collections lists all collections you follow.
You follow the collections of your communities automatically, including new ones. Switch this off or on per community in the column Auto-follow under Communities. When you turn it on, you choose whether to follow the existing collections now or only new ones.
For communities you join later, Community collections in your settings decides whether you follow their collections automatically.
Syncing liveries
Download the desktop client and install it.
Start the client, open Settings and paste the key into API Key.
Avoid join lags in ACC with one of these settings: Generate DDS files creates missing DDS files from the livery's images after the sync, matching ACC's texture setting, so ACC doesn't have to convert them when you join (needs some CPU time and disk space). Only liveries with DDS files instead skips liveries without
_1.ddsfiles; it has no effect while Generate DDS files is on. With Sync on start, the client syncs every time you start it.Click Sync liveries. Under Liveries you see what the client did with each livery.
The liveries end up in Documents\Assetto Corsa Competizione\Customs\Liveries. If you want to start from scratch, clean up this folder before your first sync.
Each livery gets one of these states:
Created: the livery is new, its folder did not exist before.
Updated: the files in an existing folder were updated.
Unchanged: the files in the folder are the same as on the server, nothing had to be downloaded.
Skipped: the livery was not downloaded, because Only liveries with DDS files is on and it has no
_1.ddsfile.Failed: something went wrong. If it happens again, let us know in the #support channel on our Discord server.
Car files and Garage
Car files that come with an ACC livery are not synced. You can download them in the livery details of the client, and its Garage shows the car files you have installed, to update or remove them. See ACC Liveries.
Known issues
Windows warns about an unknown publisher
The client is not code-signed, so Windows and your browser may warn you when you download or start it.
Browser download: If Edge or Chrome says the file "isn't commonly downloaded", open the download list, choose Keep (in Edge under "…"), then Keep anyway.
"Windows protected your PC" (SmartScreen): Click More info, then Run anyway. You only need to do this once per version.
ZIP version: Before extracting, right-click the ZIP, choose Properties, tick Unblock and click OK.
Only download the client from this page.
Why isn't the client signed? A code signing certificate costs around €200 or more every year. On top of that, the certificate has to be kept on special hardware or a paid cloud signing service. Even a signed client would still trigger the SmartScreen warning at first, until enough people have downloaded it. For a free hobby project, that's currently not worth it.
Antivirus blocks or removes the client
Because the client is new and unsigned, some antivirus software is suspicious of it. This can show up in two ways:
The client can't save liveries: Liveries are saved to your Documents folder, and some antivirus software protects that folder against unknown apps (e.g. Avast's Ransomware Shield or Windows' Controlled folder access). The sync then fails even though the client starts normally.
The client is blocked or quarantined: The installer or the client disappears or won't start, sometimes with a warning about a "threat".
To fix it, allow the client in your antivirus software. The installer puts it in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Awesome Simracing by default; for the ZIP version, use the folder you extracted it to.
Windows Security: Open Virus & threat protection → Manage ransomware protection → Allow an app through Controlled folder access and add the client. If it was quarantined, restore it under Protection history.
Avast: Add the client to the allowed apps of the Ransomware Shield (under Protection). If it was quarantined, restore it from the Quarantine and add an exception.
Other antivirus software: Look for a setting like "exceptions", "exclusions" or "allowed apps" and add the client.
Only add an exception for a client you downloaded from this page. If you're unsure or the problem persists, ask us on Discord.
