How-To: Assetto Corsa Skins

Skins for the original Assetto Corsa (AC): where the game keeps them, which files to upload, mod cars and how to install them. The steps of the livery form are in Livery Upload.

Folders

Assetto Corsa reads skins from the game folder, e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\assettocorsa. Each car has a folder in content\cars, e.g. ks_porsche_911_gt3_r_2016, and each skin is a folder in its skins folder:

  • assettocorsa\content\cars\<car>\skins\<skin folder>: the skin folder with its files.

The Skin folder in the livery form is the name of that folder. No other Assetto Corsa skin of the same car may use it.

Cars and mod cars

The site knows all cars of Assetto Corsa and its DLCs by their folder name. A skin only works for players who have the same car, so mod cars are cars of their own on the site, each with the folder name of the mod and a link to where you get it. Is your car missing? Ask us on Discord with the folder name and a link to the mod.

Skin files

  • Textures (required): all .dds, .png and .jpg textures of the skin folder. Their names come from the car, e.g. Skin_00.dds, LIVERY_d.dds or Carpaint_00.dds; the template of the car or your paint tool tells them. Each texture may have 64 MB and up to 8192 pixels per side.
  • ui_skin.json (optional): skin name, driver, team, number and country in the menus. The skin name fills the title of the livery.
  • preview.jpg (optional): the preview in the car selection, as Content Manager makes it. Without own images it is the preview of the livery on the site.
  • livery.png (optional): the colour tile of the skin in the car selection.
  • ext_config.ini (optional): settings of the skin for Custom Shaders Patch.

All files of a skin together may have 200 MB. The quickest way: select the skin folder, or the folder of the car with it, or drop it onto the form. All files are filled at once, together with the skin folder, the title and the car, which is the folder above skins.

Installing Assetto Corsa skins

The desktop client does not install Assetto Corsa skins yet. Install them from their ZIP:

  1. Click Download ZIP on the livery page.
  2. With Content Manager: drag the ZIP onto its window and click Install.
  3. By hand: copy the folder content from the ZIP into your Assetto Corsa folder and merge it, so the skin ends up in content\cars\<car>\skins.

Problems

  • The skin does not show up in the game: the skin folder must be directly in skins of the right car. Skins of mod cars need that mod, with the same folder name.
  • The car is white or the paint is wrong: the textures must have the names the car's model uses. Compare them with the skins that come with the car.
  • The form rejects a texture: check that it is a real DDS, PNG or JPEG file and not just renamed.
